From connecting your earphones to an alarm that didn’t ring, here are answers to 74 common questions.

01

Nenne Basics

What kind of app is Nenne?

Nenne is a nap timer that sends the alarm sound only to your earphones. Since no sound comes from the speaker, you can wake up without disturbing people around you — even in quiet places like libraries, subways, or offices.

In earphone mode, does sound really never leak to the speaker?

Earphone mode only rings the alarm when the sound is going to your earphones, and if they disconnect while ringing, it stops playback instead of switching to the speaker. That said, on some devices there’s a small chance of a very brief sound at the exact moment of disconnection, so test new earphones beforehand.

Is Nenne free?

Yes. Everything you need for an alarm — earphone alarms, the nap timer, and wake-up alarms — is free. On the free version, a full-screen ad may appear after you stop an alarm or cancel a timer, and locked alarm sounds can be unlocked by watching a short ad. If you want more wake-up alarms, your own sounds, or snooze, you can use Nenne+.

Can I use it without earphones?

Yes. Choose “Speaker” as the alarm mode and it rings through your phone’s speaker like a regular alarm app. On iPhone, though, if earphones are connected while the screen is locked, even a speaker-mode alarm can ring through them. To make it ring through the speaker, disconnect your earphones first.

What languages are supported?

Nenne supports 8 languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), German, Spanish, and Vietnamese. You can change it under “Language” in the Settings tab.

02

Connecting Earphones

Do Bluetooth earphones like AirPods or Galaxy Buds work too?

Yes, both Bluetooth and wired earphones are supported. If your earphones are connected to your phone over Bluetooth — like AirPods or Galaxy Buds — you can use earphone mode with them.

Do wired earphones, USB-C earphones, or adapters (dongles) work too?

Yes. 3.5mm wired earphones, USB-C earphones, and earphones plugged into a USB-C adapter (dongle) are all recognized as wired earphones.

What happens if a Bluetooth speaker is recognized as earphones?

Nenne tries its best to tell Bluetooth speakers and earphones apart, but if your phone reports a speaker as the same type as earphones, it can’t always distinguish them perfectly. When using earphone mode, disconnect any Bluetooth speaker or car audio system.

I connected my earphones, but it shows “No earphones”

This happens when your phone isn’t currently sending sound to your earphones, or Nenne hasn’t received the connection update yet. Reconnect your earphones and check that your phone’s audio output is set to them.

What happens if I take out my earphones while the alarm is ringing?

When your earphones disconnect, the alarm sound stops, and it resumes when you reconnect them. It never switches to ringing through the speaker.

What if my earphones come out while the nap timer is running?

In earphone mode, about 1.5 seconds after your earphones disconnect, both the timer and the scheduled alarm stop. Reconnect your earphones and it counts down again from where it left off.

Can I start a timer in earphone mode without earphones connected?

No. To prevent the alarm from accidentally ringing through the speaker, earphone mode requires earphones to be connected before it can start. Tap “Start with earphones” and connect your earphones, and the timer starts automatically.

Can I switch between earphone and speaker mode while the timer is running?

Yes. You can switch between earphone and speaker mode at any time while the timer is running, and the remaining time carries over as is. It’s handy when the people around you have left and you’re on your own.

If my earphones come out while I’m asleep, will I miss the alarm?

Since earphone mode never switches to the speaker even if your earphones come out, you might not hear the alarm. If you absolutely must wake up, use speaker mode or also set your phone’s built-in alarm.

03

Nap Timer

How long can I set a nap for?

From 10 seconds up to 180 minutes, down to the minute and second. For a duration not in the list, use “Custom.”

Does the alarm still ring if I turn off or lock my screen?

Yes. Starting a timer also schedules the alarm time with your phone itself, so it rings at the set time even if you lock the screen with the power button or use other apps.

Can I use other apps while the timer is running?

Yes. After starting the timer, you can go to the home screen or use other apps, and the alarm will still ring on schedule. Just don’t force-quit Nenne from the App Switcher.

If I force-quit the app (swipe it away), will the alarm still ring?

After setting an alarm, don’t force-quit the app — just lock the screen. This matters especially for earphone mode on iPhone, where force-quitting the app can prevent the alarm sound from playing at all.

I reopened the app and my running nap timer is gone

In the latest version, reopening the app finds any nap alarm still scheduled on your phone and shows the remaining time and a cancel button again. If you’re on an older version, please update.

How do I cancel the nap timer partway through?

Tap “Cancel Timer” on the timer screen. On Android, you can also cancel it from the “Cancel Timer” button on the nap progress notification (on Samsung devices, you may need to expand the notification to see it). On iPhone, cancel it from within the app.

Can I see the remaining time on the lock screen?

Yes. On iPhone, the Live Activity on the lock screen (including Dynamic Island on supported models) shows the remaining time; on Android, the progress notification in the notification shade does. You can also check it with a home screen widget.

The screen stays on while the timer is running

While the timer is running, the screen doesn’t turn off automatically, so you can keep watching the remaining time. The alarm still rings normally even if you lock the screen with the power button.

Does it remember the last nap duration and alarm sound I used?

Yes. Nap duration, alarm sound, and earphone/speaker mode are remembered even after you reopen the app. If you had selected an alarm sound unlocked by watching an ad for your nap, it reverts to the default alarm sound when you reopen the app.

What is the Favorites tab?

It’s a tab for saving nap setups you use often and applying them to Home with one tap. “Frequently Used,” which shows your most-used nap durations, is free; saving up to 3 favorites with duration, alarm mode, and sound together is a Nenne+ feature.

Is there a feature to lock the screen so I can’t use other apps while studying?

There’s no feature to block other apps. But since the alarm rings on time even if you start the timer and turn off the screen with the power button, you can just lock your phone and rest.

04

Wake-Up Alarms

How do I create a wake-up alarm?

Go to the Alarms tab, tap “Add alarm,” then set the time, repeat days, earphone or speaker mode, and alarm sound, and tap “Save.”

How many wake-up alarms can I create?

You can create 3 for free, or up to 10 with Nenne+, each at a different time. If you already had 4 or more before updating, or your Nenne+ ends, every existing alarm keeps ringing and you can still edit or toggle them. Only adding new ones is blocked.

Can I repeat an alarm on certain days, or make it ring only once?

Yes. Choose the days you want and it repeats weekly; if you don’t select any day, it rings only once.

What happens to a one-time alarm after it rings?

After you turn it off, it stays in the list in the off state. To use the same alarm again, just turn it back on from the list.

Can I set a different alarm sound and volume for each alarm?

Earphone/speaker mode and the alarm sound can be set separately for each alarm. By default, the Home screen and the wake-up alarm edit screen share one volume value; with Nenne+, the volume you set on the edit screen can apply to that alarm only. If you choose earphone mode and no earphones are connected when you save, Nenne lets you know in advance.

My repeating wake-up alarm didn’t ring the next day

Nenne schedules the next occurrence when you turn off a wake-up alarm. Turn off alarms with the “Stop Alarm” button on the app screen; if you turned it off from the notification instead, open the app once afterward.

What happens if a nap alarm and a wake-up alarm overlap?

If another alarm’s time arrives while the first one is still ringing, the second alarm doesn’t disappear — it rings in turn once the first one ends. However, if two alarms are scheduled for the exact same time down to the second, the later one is rejected and the existing alarm is kept.

Do I need to reset my alarms after updating the app?

You don’t need to recreate them, but be sure to open Nenne once after updating, before the next alarm is due to ring. A wake-up alarm set to earphone mode in an earlier version may ring through the speaker the first time after an update, until you open the app. Opening the app re-applies each alarm’s earphone/speaker mode according to what’s shown in the list.

05

Ringing and Stopping Alarms

How do I stop an alarm?

Tap “Stop Alarm” on the alarm screen, or “Stop” on the notification. Taking out your earphones only pauses the sound briefly — it resumes ringing when you reconnect them.

If I don’t stop the alarm, does it keep ringing forever?

No. It turns off automatically 10 minutes after it starts ringing. This prevents an alarm that nobody stops from ringing all night.

My alarm rang through the speaker even though it was in earphone mode

This can happen if the alarm was actually saved in speaker mode, or if your phone reported a Bluetooth speaker as earphones. If it was right after an app update, the first alarm may have rung through the speaker before you opened the app.

The alarm time arrived, but no sound played

Check, in order: your earphone connection, alarm mode and volume, notification permission, and whether the app was force-quit. Ringing a 10-second test alarm makes it easier to find where the problem is.

What do I do if an alarm won’t turn off or its schedule gets mixed up?

Tap “Reset alarms” in the Settings tab to stop every ringing or scheduled alarm at once, including naps. Your saved wake-up alarms aren’t deleted — they’re just turned off.

My alarm was in speaker mode but rang through my earphones

On iPhone, if earphones are connected while the screen is locked, even a speaker-mode alarm can ring through them. Taking them out makes it ring through the speaker instead. To have it ring through the speaker, disconnect your earphones before you fall asleep.

The alarm is too quiet or too loud

Set the alarm volume on the Home screen and the wake-up alarm edit screen. The actual loudness is your phone’s media volume multiplied by the app volume, so if the media volume is 0, raising the app volume won’t help. If “Gradually louder” is on, the alarm starts quietly for the first 15 seconds. Run a 10-second test alarm with your earphones in to hear the real level.

Does it vibrate when the alarm rings?

Vibration is off by default. Turn on “Vibration” in the Settings tab and the phone vibrates while the alarm rings. It only vibrates while sound is playing, so if your earphones disconnect and the sound stops, the vibration stops too. In quiet places, vibration on a desk can be heard by others, so it’s best left off.

How do I use snooze?

It’s a Nenne+ feature. On the ringing screen, tap “Snooze N min” for a wake-up alarm or “Nap N more minutes” for a nap, and it rings again after that time. Choose 5, 10, or 15 minutes in the Settings tab; you can snooze up to 3 times.

If I tap “Nap more” several times, are multiple naps recorded?

No. However many times you snooze, only the original nap is recorded, and the Nap Complete screen shows the original nap length.

The alarm starts out quiet

That’s because “Gradually louder” is on. The alarm starts quietly and rises to your set volume over 15 seconds. To ring at full volume from the start, turn it off in the Settings tab. If your earphones disconnect and reconnect, it starts quietly again.

06

Alarm Sounds

How many alarm sounds are there?

There are 45. From “Browse more sounds by theme” on the Home screen, you can find them by theme — Basic, Melody, Bell & Chime, Nature, and Effects — and preview each one before choosing. The basic sounds are free; locked sounds can be unlocked by watching an ad or used anytime with Nenne+.

Can I use my own music file as an alarm sound?

With Nenne+, you can use mp3, wav, and m4a files as alarm sounds. Open My music using the “Use my own alarm sound” shortcut on Home or in the wake-up alarm editor. Use each sound’s ⋯ menu to rename or delete it. You can add up to 10 files, each 20 MB and 10 minutes or less.

How do I use an alarm sound with a lock icon?

Tap a locked sound in the alarm sound list and watch a short ad to the end to use it right away. The unlock lasts until you fully close the app, and any sound you save to a wake-up alarm in the meantime keeps ringing afterward. With Nenne+, you can keep using every sound without watching ads.

I reopened the app and the alarm sound reverted to default

A sound unlocked by watching an ad only stays available until you fully close the app, so the sound you picked for naps goes back to the default when you reopen it. To keep using it, unlock it again or use Nenne+. When Nenne+ ends, a locked sound picked for naps also changes back to the default. Sounds already saved to wake-up alarms don’t change.

Where does the alarm sound preview play?

When you tap Preview, it plays only through your earphones if they’re connected, or through the speaker if not. If you’re listening through earphones and take them out, the preview stops.

07

Widgets and Display Settings

How do I add a home screen widget?

Nenne offers 3 widgets: nap timer, wake-up alarm, and a combined nap + wake-up alarm view. Long-press your home screen, find Nenne in the widget list, and add it. On iPhone, a lock screen widget is also available.

The time shown on the widget differs from the app

Widgets only refresh when your phone allows it, so they can be briefly behind the app screen. The actual alarm rings at its scheduled time regardless of the widget.

If I remove a widget, does it cancel the alarm too?

No. Widgets only display status, so removing one doesn’t affect any scheduled alarm.

Is dark mode available?

Yes. By default it follows your device setting, and you can turn dark mode on or off directly under “General” in the Settings tab.

How do I change the app language?

You can change it under “Language” inside “General” in the Settings tab. 8 languages are supported.

08

Nap History

What can I see in the History tab?

See the past year of naps as a contribution graph, along with this week’s nap count, your current and longest streaks, and daily activity. The most-used nap durations have moved to the Favorites tab.

My nap streak looks broken

A streak counts how many consecutive days have a recorded nap. If you haven’t napped yet today, it shows the streak through yesterday; skip a day with no recorded nap and it starts over. A nap turned off from the notification isn’t recorded, so stop it from the app’s alarm screen instead.

Can I restore a broken nap streak?

If a streak of at least 3 days has a single missed day, you can restore it within 48 hours of midnight at the end of that missed day. At least 7 days must have passed since your last restoration. When eligible, a restore card appears at the top of History or on the nap completion screen.

I turned off my nap alarm, but it wasn’t recorded

A nap is only recorded if you tapped “Stop Alarm” on the app’s alarm screen, or it turned off automatically after 10 minutes while that screen was open. A nap turned off with “Stop” on the lock screen notification, one that turned off automatically while the screen was locked, or one cancelled partway through, isn’t recorded.

Does tapping “Frequently Used” start a nap right away?

No. “Frequently Used” is in the Favorites tab, and tapping it only changes the nap duration on the Home tab. You still need to start the timer yourself. You can’t change it while a nap is in progress.

How many nap records are kept?

Up to the most recent 1,500 are kept. Existing records are preserved even after you update the app.

09

Nenne+ Subscription

What is Nenne+, and how is it different from the free version?

Nenne+ is Nenne’s paid plan. Everything you need for an alarm — earphone alarms, the nap timer, and wake-up alarms — stays free. With Nenne+, you can use every alarm sound without watching ads, plus 10 wake-up alarms, your own sounds, snooze, per-alarm volume, and nap favorites.

What happens to my alarms when Nenne+ ends?

Your alarms don’t turn off — they keep ringing. Sounds chosen with Nenne+, your own sounds, and per-alarm volumes keep working as saved; only choosing or changing them is blocked.

Is there a free trial?

Eligible users can get a 7-day free trial of the yearly subscription. Monthly subscriptions and lifetime purchases are excluded. Check the app’s subscription screen and the store checkout for your actual eligibility and the price after the trial. Cancel during the trial to avoid being charged; otherwise, it converts automatically to a paid yearly subscription after the trial. See the Terms of Service.

How do I cancel or change my plan?

Tap “Manage subscription” in the Settings tab to go to the App Store or Google Play subscription page, where you can cancel. You can keep using Nenne+ until the paid period ends. To switch between monthly and yearly, tap “Change plan”; depending on the store, the change may take effect from the next billing date. Refunds are requested through each store — see the Terms of Use for details.

I bought lifetime access, but my old subscription is still being charged

Buying lifetime access doesn’t cancel an existing subscription automatically. Cancel the old one from “Manage subscription” in the Settings tab. “Manage subscription” stays visible after a lifetime purchase as long as a subscription remains.

I changed phones or reinstalled the app. Can I get my purchase back?

Tap “Restore purchases” in the Settings tab or at the bottom of the subscription screen. You need to be signed in with the App Store or Google Play account you paid with, and purchases can’t move between different stores, such as from iPhone to Android. If you see “Couldn’t verify purchases,” check your internet connection and try again shortly.

I paid, but it says “Payment pending”

This appears when you pay on Google Play with a method that takes time to approve, such as a convenience store or cash payment. Please don’t pay again — it’s applied automatically once approved.

10

Permissions, Ads & Support

Why is notification permission needed?

Notification permission is needed so the alarm can ring on time even while your screen is locked or you’re using other apps. On Android, exact alarm permission is also required.

How do I turn the daily nap reminder on or off, or change its time?

Open “Nap reminder” in Settings to switch “Daily nap reminder” on or off and change its time. This reminder is separate from nap and wake-up alarms. Use this setting to disable just the reminder instead of turning off all app notifications.

Does it require Bluetooth or microphone permission?

No. Since earphone connection is checked using your phone’s audio output information, Nenne doesn’t request Bluetooth or microphone permission.

What is the “Allow Tracking” prompt on iPhone?

It’s iPhone’s standard request to allow tracking, used to show ads that match your interests. Every feature works the same even if you don’t allow it. If you’re using Nenne+, you won’t be asked.

Can I remove ads?

With Nenne+, you can use every alarm sound without watching ads, and the full-screen ads after stopping an alarm or canceling a timer don’t appear. On the free version, full-screen ads only appear after you stop an alarm or cancel a timer, and never when an alarm stops automatically after 10 minutes.

What data is collected?

Nenne has no sign-up or login. The app collects information like device information and advertising identifiers for ads (Google AdMob), usage analytics (Firebase Analytics), crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics), and purchase verification (RevenueCat), and this website uses cookies for visit analytics (Google Analytics). Your alarm list and nap history are stored on your device. Usage events such as nap timer starts, completions, cancellations, the selected length in minutes, and seconds remaining at cancellation may be sent for analytics. The full nap history stored on your device is not uploaded. See the Privacy Policy for details.
