The alarm time arrived, but no sound played

Check, in order: your earphone connection, alarm mode and volume, notification permission, and whether the app was force-quit. Ringing a 10-second test alarm makes it easier to find where the problem is.

Check these in order

  1. Earphone connection · Check that your Bluetooth earphones haven’t switched to another device like a laptop, and aren’t sitting in their case. Earphone mode stays silent and waits if no earphones are connected.
  2. Alarm mode and volume · Check that you selected the intended mode (earphone or speaker), and that Nenne’s alarm volume and your phone’s media volume aren’t too low. The actual loudness is media volume multiplied by app volume, so if media volume is 0, raising app volume won’t make it audible.
  3. Notification permission · Notification permission is required to ring an alarm while the screen is off. Exact alarm permission is also required on Android.
  4. Whether the app was force-quit · If you swiped Nenne away in the App Switcher after setting an alarm, the alarm sound may not play — especially in earphone mode on iPhone.
  5. Repeating wake-up alarm · If you turned off the previous alarm from the notification and never opened the app afterward, the next occurrence may not have been scheduled.
  6. App version · Update to the latest version.
  7. Test alarm · Preview and the actual alarm behave differently. Set a 10-second timer and lock the screen to confirm it rings through the device you want.

Tips for narrowing down the cause

Try ringing a 10-second alarm while changing one condition at a time — app open vs. screen locked, earphone mode vs. speaker mode. Knowing exactly which condition causes no sound makes the cause easy to find, and it helps a lot if you contact us.

iPhone

Check that notifications and sounds are allowed for Nenne in iPhone Settings. After setting an alarm, don’t force-quit the app — just lock the screen.

Android

In an earlier version, on some Galaxy devices, Bluetooth earphone-mode alarms didn’t play through either the earphones or the speaker. Update to the latest version, and check both notification and exact alarm permissions.
