What happens if a Bluetooth speaker is recognized as earphones?
Nenne tries its best to tell Bluetooth speakers and earphones apart, but if your phone reports a speaker as the same type as earphones, it can’t always distinguish them perfectly. When using earphone mode, disconnect any Bluetooth speaker or car audio system.
Why can’t it always tell them apart?
Phones often only report a connected device’s general type, like “Bluetooth audio.” If wireless earphones and some Bluetooth speakers, soundbars, or car audio systems look like the same type, there’s no way for the app to tell them apart. Nenne then decides it’s fine to send sound to that device, so the alarm can end up ringing through the speaker.
Bluetooth speakers that connect using low energy (BLE) are identified separately and not treated as earphones. An earlier Android version had an issue where these speakers were misidentified as earphones, so update to the latest version.
This often happens in situations like
- Your phone auto-reconnects to a Bluetooth speaker or soundbar you use at home
- The connection to your car audio system stays active for a moment after you get out of the car
- Earphones and a speaker are connected at the same time and sound goes to the speaker
How to use it safely
- Disconnect any Bluetooth speaker or car audio system before you fall asleep.
- Check that “Bluetooth connected” on the Home tab is showing because of your earphones.
- Test with a 10-second timer to confirm the alarm rings through your earphones.
